2011 Tampa Am footage of Mountain Dew Am’s and friends.
Etnies Europe riders Axel Cruysberghs, Douwe Macare, and friends were in town a few weeks ago for the 2011 Tampa Am. When Axel didn’t make the cut, they headed out on a filming mission, hitting up some familiar Tampa street skating spots, and of course, the Bro Bowl. Check out the really nice montage below, and be sure to take a look at the killer photos of the trip from Switn here.
Filmed & Edited by Willem Vleugels.
The 2011 Tampa Am is this weekend, and as is the case every year, the street course has a whole new look. The first evening that it was skateable, Jeremy Knibbs, Josh Wilson, Dylan Perry, PJ Castellano, Manny, Porpe, Chris Jata, Tom McKessy, Steve Buggica, and Nick Wilton shredded it after-hours. Check out the FLA Skateboarding Events page for a complete schedule of this weekend’s events.
Grant Taylor is Thrasher Magazine’s 2011 Skater of the Year…it’s easy to see why with this part. Pure gnar.
Tommy Bohn put together a nice little montage of bangers from Midtown Skatepark’s 2nd Annual Midtown Massacre Best Trick Contest.

Congratulations to ArtDeckO for taking 1st Place Judges Award last night at Realize Bradenton’s ArtSlam 2011. Geza Darrah and crew put together a hell of an event. Here are some words straight from the ArtDeckO Facebook page: “!!!!!ArtDeckO WON 1ST PLACE JUDGES AWARD at ARTSLAM, BRADENTON.. A CITY BUILT OF COLOR AND CULTURE.. IN ONE DAY. Our team took over a block with our spontaneous creation of skateboarding, building ramps, wall ride, halfpipe mixed with live art, graffiti, live bands, Dj, and stencil workshop for all ages painting their own skateboards and t-shirts.. WOW what a success everyone involved and THANKS so much for your participation to make something like this happen in the middle of DOWNTOWN BRADENTON..” I managed to get several photos, while also skating, meeting cool new people, and having a great time. Cheers…looking forward to next year’s ArtSlam. – Nicks.

The Billabong Skate Team toured the United States a couple of months ago in the Billabong tour bus, shredding spots everywhere they went. Florida spots were no exception! Take a look at the tour video featuring: Shuriken Shannon, Marius Syvanen, Red, Manchild, Jimmy Cao, Tyler Surrey, & Ben Gore.
Alchemy Grip’s Fall 2011 offerings are now up, and it’s pretty clear that they are at the forefront of innovation in the skateboarding industry. It is so refreshing to see creative products, or a skateboarder’s unique style, or the invention of a new trick or combination of tricks. The progression and evolution of our beloved art form depends on these forward thinkers. Alchemy is definitely moving forward…don’t get left behind.
Saturday was the Gatorade Free Flow Tour stop at the Skatepark of Tampa. The Gatorade Free Flow Tour is the official amateur series of the Dew Tour, and through a series of 30 regional contests across the country, gives local rippers the opportunity to go from “Flow to Pro”. The winner of each regional event gets a trip to compete in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals, which are held in conjunction with the Dew Tour events in Portland and Salt Lake City. The winners in the Finals then get an opportunity to compete against the pros at the Dew Tour Championships, which are October 13-16, 2011 in Las Vegas.
I managed to get some photos of the Skate Vert Finals, but unfortunately, couldn’t stay for the Skate Street. Personally, I think it is killer that there is a whole new generation of kids coming up that are stoked on skating, vert, pools, bowls, etc. It is obviously, at least partially, the direct result of the fact that there are a lot more skateparks around these days. Regardless, it is very refreshing, I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love street skating, I grew up skating street. I just always fantasized about skating vert ramps or pools, there just weren’t ever really any around by the time I started skating.
Anyway, these kids were absolutely killing it! There were a bunch of the local shredders representing, including Nick Wallace, Brennan Campbell, Issac Crawford, and Jake Ilardi, as well as some east coast rippers that made the trip, such as Clay Kreiner, Beaver Fleming, and Collin Graham. There was some serious grown-man skateboarding going down on that vert ramp! In the end, Clay Kreiner from South Carolina walked away with first place and a trip to the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals. Congratulations Clay! Also, a big shout out to Devin Abreu and Tyler Hunger for taking first in the Skate Street Advanced and Beginner Finals, respectively. Devin and Tyler are both local rippers who have been shutting down all of the contests lately…congrats guys! Good Luck! Check out all of the results here. – Nicks
