I was holding on to these two photos for the purpose of using them in the first print issue of No Comply Skateboard Mag. In January of 2013, the mag will be 2 years old. I really wanted to release the first print issue of the mag in January in conjunction with the 2 Year Anniversary. But, over the last few weeks I have been doing a lot of thinking. I have unfortunately, come to the conclusion at this point, that I am not going to be doing a print issue of the mag. At least, not for now. This doesn’t mean that it is totally out of the equation. It just means that, based on where I have placed my priorities in life at the present moment, it just doesn’t make the list. I have decided to focus my efforts (After Family, Friends, and Work) on continuing to evolve the website, shooting more photos, learning how to shoot video, and on growing my new apparel and accessories brand No Comply.
That being said, I am stoked more and more every day on how the mag has grown and on all of the rad people that I have met (and reconnected with) over the past two years as a result. It’s also really cool to hear all of the positive feedback from people that I meet. That means a lot! Thank you. Anyway, I hope everyone continues to enjoy the mag. Cheers! -Nicks
I heard about this crazy ship hull d.i.y. spot recently, so on my way back to St. Pete from P(A)yne Skatepark in Sarasota last week, I stopped to scope it out. The hull is actually two huge separate fiberglass pieces, side-by-side. Someone has placed old metal signs, thin plywood, cardboard, and whatever else they could find over the big sketchy seam in the middle to make it at least somewhat ride-able. The walls are tight and steep, there is almost no flat bottom, almost no deck, and just to make it that much sketchier, there is a huge seam that you can see just below the lip in the photo.
So, naturally, the first person that came to my mind when thinking of people I know that would be down for this crazy spot, was my good buddy Nick Murphy. I told Nick about the spot, and a few days later Nick came over from Orlando and we set out on a mission. I’ll just put it this way…mission accomplished, and then some. I couldn’t wait to post one of the photos from the day, so below is the backside boneless that he stomped. Check out the first issue of the print mag in January for the rest of the photos from the day. Cheers. -Nicks
Billy Marks, Tom Asta, Chico Brenes, Rodrigo TX, Felipe Gustavo, and Tommy Sandoval rolled through Florida on the LRG 2012 Florida Tour last month signing autographs and doing demos. Check the footage of them shredding parks all over the state including: P(a)yne Skatepark in Sarasota, Schoolyard Skatepark in St. Petersburg, and the Skatepark of Tampa…among others.
Jake & Nate Ilardi are twins from the Sarasota area and locals of P(A)YNE Skatepark. Jake & Nate are rippers, they have positive attitudes, and Nate is killing it on the photo/ video front these days. Check out a couple of recent edits that Nate has put together:
MIA Skateshop put together a sick little edit of their road-trip to Tampa for the Clash of the Crews at SPoT last month. Looks like they managed to fit in a killer session at P(A)yne Skatepark in Sarasota as well. Check it…
Ryan Skorker throwaway clips from the upcoming Are We Done Yet? video from Liam Jordan. Stay tuned for details about the premiere at Compound Boardshop in Sarasota.
Are We Done Yet? is a full-length video by Liam Jordan featuring some raw street talent out of the Sarasota/ Englewood/ North Port areas of Florida. Ryan Beckford, Ryan Skorker, and Christian Lazarski are blowing up the scene down there. Look for full parts from all three of these dudes in the final video…in the meantime, check out the promo posted below. Keep an eye out for a premiere sometime in the beginning of 2012 at Compound Boardshop in Sarasota.
Friday at P(a)yne Skatepark in Sarasota the weather was perfect for the Punk Rock Mini Ramp Jam. Losin’ It, Truth Inside, Slow Burn, Brainbust, Suburban Warfare, and Green Street Elite kept the tunes hard and loud all evening long, while a super-charged jam was going down on the mini ramp. Big shout-outs to Compound Boardshop, V-Town Surf & Skate 2, and Chris & Dan @ P(a)yne Skatepark for the giveaways and for making it all happen. Until next time…
Quick 5 is a brand new, and hopefully regular, feature on the mag. Pretty much just like it sounds, Quick 5 is a quick, 5-trick video clip. I’m hoping that this will also force me to improve my filming and editing skills! Anyway, getting us started is Westside Skateshop family member, and one of Florida’s finest…TJ Sparks. – Nicks
When the Bones Wheels team rolled through Florida a few months back, they did a demo at P(a)yne Skatepark in Sarasota and tore the place up. Check out this weeks Mo’ Mondays featuring: Jimmy “The Greek” Marcus, Ben Hatchell, Kevin Kowalski, Steven Reeves, and Brad McClain makin’ it look easy! While you are at it register to WIN wheels, bearings, bushings, t-shirts, and more!
Ryan Skorker rides for Compound Boardshop in Sarasota. Here is a sick little park montage of Ryan shredding Englewood Skatepark. If you have not skated this park yet…get there!
